Season 5 of Rick and Morty is almost here. Adult Swim posted a new trailer on Monday, announcing that the next installment of the hit animated series will be released on June 20 after nearly a year of limbo. That isn’t it, however. Dan Harmon, the show’s co-creator, revealed that when the season premieres, viewers should expect a lot more than just a new season.
Rick and Morty Season 5 Release Date
According to Deadline, the co-creator has declared June 20 to be “Rick and Morty Day,” a multiverse holiday that will be observed worldwide. Harmon and Adult Swim will provide viewers with never-before-seen sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes videos, and a few special surprises to celebrate the arrival of Rick and Morty season 5. When the season five opener airs around the world, these extra tidbits will be posted on TV, digital, and social media.
The news follows Harmon’s previous remarks about the production, which has traditionally meant a long wait between seasons. In a PaleyFest simulated chat, he said, “We’re more on track than we’ve ever been,” adding that the animated “Rick and Morty” is easier to get off the ground than a live-action production. “When you don’t have the workplace climate anymore, it forces you to concentrate on the whole process.” Since everybody is responsible for running this bee colony from afar, the honey is produced more efficiently. It seems to be working for us.” Discover Rick and Morty Merch for fans !
Rick and Morty Season 5 Plot
The show’s writers are keeping their cards close to their vest when it comes to what we can expect from Rick and Morty season five. One thing we do know is that Mr Nimbus, Rick’s “once and everlasting adversary,” is set to make multiple appearances in the new trailer, with Jerry referring to him as a “strange, horny ocean guy.”
The most important of these potential plot points was Clone Beth, an invention of Rick’s to give his daughter the opportunity to escape her mundane family life and travel the galaxy. The Rick and Morty Season 4 finale left it purposefully ambiguous as to which Beth was the original one and which Beth was the replica, as well as what will happen now that both Beths are aware of each other’s existence. We expect this plot point to be revisited in the future, if not in Rick and Morty season 5.
In the episode “Never Ricking Morty,” we also saw the return of Evil Morty, but in the form of a dream/fantasy scenario. Fans have been waiting for more from Evil Morty since his ascension to dominance in Season 3, and we can’t help but think that this appearance in the episode was the writers enticing them with a preview of what’s to come. Season 5 can hopefully give us more insight into the character and his plans.
Apart from that, the season five trailer features all of the absurd action/adventure that viewers have come to expect from the animated series. Rick and Beth will be dressed in bondage wear, with the rest of the family dressed in super costumes and a praying mantis the size of a kaiju. More will be announced on June 20.
